The rise of the Kenyan RnB platform in Kenya.
Kenya's burgeoning music scene is giving birth to a new generation of rappers, singers and songwriters who find inspiration in both homegrown and international sounds.
Since the nation's independence in 1963, Kenyan popular music has been dominated by Western-influenced genres such as blues, soul, rock and reggae. But over the past few years, a new wave of Kenyan music has been emerging, infused with more African vibes and influenced by a range of genres including hip-hop, rap, pop and R&B.
R&B is a style of music that hails from the African-American community, and it's become increasingly popular in Kenya in recent years.
"The current Kenyan music landscape is really diverse, and there's something for everyone," says Victor Gitonga, an award-winning Kenyan musician and composer. "There's a lot of new talent, and the scene is expanding fast."
Sauti sol is the most recognized boy band that releases music with the RnB touch.
Unfortunately most of these young and new talents aren't recognized enough. Musicians like Okello Max who expresses his feelings through his Dholuo language with a touch of the crisp RnB vibes. But one thing is for sure, once you start listening to the likes of Okello Max there's no going back. We also have the likes of Karun who have been in the music scene for more than 10 years but still don't get the recognition they deserve.
Other artists include Xenia Manasseh, Njerae, Bey T, Pryshon, Amara Tari, Maya Amolo, Ruguru.
